I am pregnant and my boyfriend and I am scared that we will not be able to afford school anymore. We don’t know if we ever plan to get married or not and we don’t know of any scholarships that we could get or where to go to get them.

I just recently got accepted into the nursing program at Ivy Tech in Indianapolis. I was wondering if anyone knew of any good nursing scholarships or scholarships for single moms? I did an internet search for them and of course a million come up but I want some legit websites, not a bunch of spam sites that will clog up my inbox.

Please let me know of any that seemed to work for you

Sherrill W. Mosee is founder and president of Family Care Solutions Inc., (FCS) a nonprofit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She is creator of the FCS Child Care Scholarship, Yes Mommy Can, founding member of the Greater Philadelphia Consortium to Provide Child Care Access to Student-Parents, and author of Professor, Can I Bring My Baby to Class? FCS was established in 1992 when Mosee needed to find quality childcare to return to work following maternity leave. She published Who’s Who in Child Care in the Delaware Valley, a directory to help other working parent. When Mosee’s stepdaughter became pregnant in her first year of college, the electrical engineer-turned-social developer remembered the challenges she had to meet as a young woman growing up in Baltimore with limited means trying to secure a good college education. How much harder it would have been, she thought, if she also had children to care for at the same time. She recognized the need to support low-income single mothers in college and the importance child care has on education attainment and gradation. Thus, she created the FCS Child Care Scholarship. Mosee oversees daily operations of the agency.

I am so weary of paying websites to give me a list of scholarships for single moms. I do not want scholarships/ grants to become a teacher, I am not hispanic, black, beaten or homeless. I am just a single mom needing some financial help to go to college. HELP!!!

It really makes me angry that a LARGE majority of college scholarships for mothers that are in school are only for single-mothers… One of my friends and I applied for the same scholarship…. originally I won the scholarship then they took it back saying I couldn’t be awarded the scholarship because I was married… yet my friend who is a little bit on the “easy” side decided to make irresponsible choices and get drunk and sleep with random people and then fall pregnant gets rewarded with the scholarship they were going to give me?!?!?!??

Anyone else think this is unfair? Its not like my husband is bringing in a ton of money… hes a full-time college student as well.. but it just doesn’t seem fair that they dont even consider “live-in-boyfriends” as disqualifying for the award…
I understand if the mom is truely a single mom so I don’t mean to offend any single moms out there.. I just hate that they took away the award from me because I’m legally married.. yet she has a live-in-boyfriend who works full-time and provides for their family just like my husband its just we are “legal” so I am disqualified and she gets it!
EDIT::: Yes she did tell them about her BF but they aren’t legally married so she is considered “single”… I should have rephrased my question.. I agree single mom scholarships are GREAT for those that DON’T have a “fake” husband aka a boyfriend that does everything a husband would just without the paperwork

Is there a place (thank you, to those of you who plan to offer me “Scholarships.com” as an answer, but been there, done that) on-line that offers *legitimate* and *easy* to apply for scholarships? It seems as though many of the online ones available are difficult to access, as they link me to other websites or try to get me to apply for college (already there, thanks).

I’m planning to be a transfer student, transferring from a community college to a four-year school… so if anyone knows of any transfer programs also, extra thanks go out to you =)

If not on-line, is there a way I can find out about other scholarships? Mail-in ones, etc.? I know, I’ll probably be scolded and called a newbie at this stuff, but what can I say? I never applied myself in high school and so this whole scholarship business is a bit new to me and I could use all the resources I can get.

THANKYOU.
